'Soft Life for Elisabeth' by George F. Wheelock 1971 from the collection of Henri C. Veit.
From original receipt for purchase on base:
Received from Henri C. Veit $350.00 this day ($2500 in today's cash) the following described work of art:
-One sculpture, titled 'Soft Life for Elisabeth' 9.5" x 10" x 8" on a 4" aluminum base, black laquer finish on a mixed plastic base material Artists Portfolio number 29
Signed George F Wheelock.
Sculpture shows age appropriate patina throughout with some minor cracks and some scuffs with a repaired bumped corner as pictured. Base shows mild patina. Quite striking and interesting in person with a nice weight. Shows excellently but sold as is.
As far as the artist goes researches indicates its the same George F Wheelock from the company of the same name that produces heating and cooling supplies. Seems to have been an artist on the side? The original owner Henri C Veit was the chief librarian at the Brooklyn Public Library and passed in 2012.
