Iconic Urchin ashtray by Marc Newson designed in 1995 manufactured by Habitat circa 1998.
Originally commissioned by Swedish tobacco company Blend, the circular glass ashtray was shaped like a slightly deformed Orgone shape with grooves machined into the top. Marc used the ashtray in green for Coast Restaurant, and the design was later picked up by Habitat under direction of Tom Dixon who produced a hollow version called ‘Urchin’. 16 grooved cutouts on chunky round smoked glass body with signature on base. One small scuff to glass otherwise in excellent condition. A major design collectible. Very pricey elsewhere.
